Fort Bend County Ranked the Richest in Texas

Many will agree that Fort Bend County is rich in history, culture and opportunity. It’s a big reason why families love living here! But according to a recent article by Houston Chronicle, a new ranking places Fort Bend as the No. 1 richest county in the state of Texas.

24/7 Wall St. compiled the ranking based on median household income data and 5-year estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau's 2017 American Community Survey, according to the report.

Fort Bend's median household income is the highest in Texas at $93,645, according to the report, while state average median household income is $57,051. As of October 2019, the unemployment rate is 3.6 percent while the poverty level is shown at 8.1 percent, according to the report.

"In the past five years, the county's population increased by more than 123,000 people, a 21.1 percent growth rate,' the report stated. "That is more than five times the U.S. population's growth rate."

The population growth in Fort Bend has been repeatedly reported.  In 2017, researchers at the University of Houston's Hobby School of Public Affairs found if migration trends continue, Fort Bend's population will increase by 368 percent, or more than 2.1 million people, by 2050.

The report also highlighted Fort Bend's well-educated population, citing the county's bachelor's degree attainment rate is at 45.7 percent, while the state's is set at 28.7 percent, according to the report.

On top of this, Fort Bend has previously been ranked as one of the fastest growing counties, driving new developments like master planned communities and expanding school districts.
